Preventive Dental Care to Keep your Mouth Healthy and Your Smile Bright
The team at Winneconne Family Dentistry strongly believes preventive dental care is essential for maintaining teeth and gums for life. Preventive dental care can help each member of your family maintain a beautiful, healthy smile by safeguarding against oral diseases like tooth decay and gum disease. Our goal is to prevent these diseases from happening in the first place or to at least identify potential problems in their early stages when they are easier and less expensive to treat. This is best achieved through a lifetime of preventive dental care.
Routine Preventive Care Visits
We recommend routine preventive dental care visits at least two times a year. Each routine visit includes a prophylaxis (teeth cleaning) and oral examination. We will screen for tooth decay, gum disease (periodontal disease), oral cancer, TMJ and problems with your bite. To enhance your smile, we can also address any cosmetic dentistry concerns you may have.
Teeth Cleanings and Periodontal Assessments
For a person with healthy gums our hygienists will remove the plaque and tartar that has built up from around the teeth that sits above the gum line. For patients with signs and symptoms of gum disease such as: bleeding gums, bad breath, loose teeth and bone loss, a deeper cleaning may be indicated as well as cleanings 3 to 4 times a year. Unhealthy gums are a significant health concern and may lead to tooth loss and are associated with the increased potential for stroke, heart disease and most recently, infertility. A periodontal assessment is completed each and every time you visit our office whether you are healthy or have a previous history of gum disease and can be one of the most important screening services you receive for not just your oral health, but your overall health as well.
Sealants fill in the grooves of the back molars to prevent plaque and bacteria from getting stuck in those grooves and causing cavities. Children can benefit the most from dental sealants right around 6 and 12 years of age or just after their permanent molars erupt to help prevent cavities from forming.
Teeth that do not fit together ideally can cause a multitude of problems. It can cause unnecessary wear on teeth, TMJ problems, migraine headaches and biting and cold sensitivity. If you are one of the estimated 60 million Americans who grind their teeth at night splint therapy can stop the damage and can significantly improve or eliminate the symptoms.
Dental Sleep Medicine
If you or a loved one snore or have been diagnosed with sleep apnea, the team at Winneconne Family Dentistry can help. We offer snoring appliances and CPAP alternatives so that you can get a good night’s rest. For more information or to schedule your sleep apnea consultation, please call or visit our office today.
Most people may consider orthodontic treatment to be primarily cosmetic in nature. However, straight teeth that are properly aligned can significantly help you and your family maintain a healthy smile for a lifetime. Tooth straightening services are provided by Oshkosh orthodontist, Dr. Larry Johnson and his team at our office one Friday afternoon every month.
